RESPITE CARE

Respite care is one of many services covered under Indiana’s Medicaid programs. Respite is intended to be provided on a short-term basis because of the absence or need for relief of primary caregivers. We know that caregiving is a full-time responsibility, but with respite services, primary caregivers get the relief they need to tend to themselves and the peace-of-mind that their loved one is safe and cared for.

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) at Camp Red Cedar can provide respite services in the participant’s home and/or in the community. With their DSP, participants will get to explore their likes and dislikes, form new relationships, and develop new skills that promote independent living. DSPs can assist individuals with different activities of daily living, including personal cares (toileting, personal hygiene), meal preparation, household management (laundry, and other chores), and medication administration. Participants and their DSP can also choose to engage in activities as part of the larger community, such as attending local events or visiting the library or YMCA.

Camp Red Cedar’s DSPs are well known for delivering quality services with compassion, integrity, and accountability. Our DSPs are certified in First Aid/CPR and receive specific training on the individual’s unique needs and preferences prior to the first respite service.

Individuals seeking respite services should register online and follow up with their Case Manager to request waiver funds. Camp Red Cedar currently accepts the Community Integration and Habilitation (CIH) Waiver and Family Supports Waiver (FSW). Private payment methods are not accepted at this time.

Appointment requests are submitted through an online survey and confirmed by the Program Coordinator after assigning a DSP with matching availability. Services are never guaranteed; however, the Program Coordinator is available throughout this process to guide you through registration, scheduling, and connecting you with your DSP.
